Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of one or more areas in the spine — most often in the neck or lower back. This narrowing can put pressure on the spinal cord or on the nerves that branch out from the compressed areas.

Spinal stenosis can cause cramping, pain or numbness in the legs, back, neck, shoulders or arms; a loss of sensation in the extremities; and sometimes problems with bladder or bowel function. Spinal stenosis is most commonly caused by untreated osteoarthritis-related bone damage and degeneration.

Signs of Potential Concern:
  • Pain or cramping in your legs.
  • Radiating back and hip pain.
  • Pain in your neck and shoulders.
  • Loss of balance.
  • Loss of bowel or bladder function.
